Este artículo ofrece una aproximación teórica al concepto de cultura política y presenta algunos de los resultados obtenidos en su aplicación al terreno de la investigación histórica y, en particular, al estudio de la Revolución Francesa. El autor responde, asimismo, a algunas de las críticas de que ha sido objeto el enfoque historiográfico basado en el concepto de cultura política y en una noción de lenguaje como factor generador de prácticas e instituciones. Finalmente, el artículo contiene una evaluación crítica de la reciente contribución de William H. Sewell al debate sobre el giro lingüístico y sobre el concepto de lo social.
This article surveys recent theoretical contributions to the concept of political culture as well as its application to the field of historical inquiry and, in particular, to the French Revolution. It also replies to critics of the concept of political culture and of the role of language in constituting practices and institutions. Lastly, it offers a critical assessment of William Sewell’s ongoing theorization of the social, partly, within the terrain shaped by the linguistic turn.
