Este artículo plantea una revisión del lugar jugado por la construcción de las identidades regionales en el imaginario nacional español de la Restauración. Si en la mayoría de los estudios dedicados hasta la fecha al tema, el imaginario de lo regional ocupa un lugar menor, este trabajo plantea la necesidad de resituar la centralidad del mismo. Para ello se abordará su presencia a través de diversos materiales culturales, ya sean científicos (geográficos, antropológicos) o estéticos (literatura, música y artes plásticas). Por último, este texto argumenta en favor de considerar la modernidad de la región frente a la extendida visión que la vincula con el inmovilismo y el arcaísmosocial.
This article seeks to offer a new interpretation of regional identities thorough the Spanish Restoration national imaginary. Using new approaches and theoretical perspectives, it is argued here an alternative interpretation of the relationship between region and nation in Spain. Focusing on the cultural imaginary of the nation, here will be analised the role played by scientific (geographical and anthropological) and aesthetic discourses. Finally, this text argues against the vision of region and region-building as an out of date and non modern process.
