El artículo analiza la trayectoria de la Asociación de Agricultores de España (AAE) desde su fundación, en 1881, hasta la Guerra Civil. Describe, en primer lugar, las grandes fases de la historia de esta asociación de grandes propietarios, políticos agrarios y técnicos, sus cambios organizativos y estratégicos, y los elementos que le permitieron mantener e incluso aumentar su influencia política. Introduce brevemente, en segundo lugar, la forma en que fue construyendo y revisando los intereses de la agricultura, a partir de la confrontación de su discurso modernizador con las transformaciones del entorno económico y político. Analiza, por último, las tácticas empleadas para influir en las decisiones públicas, bajo los diferentes regímenes políticos —liberal, dictatorial y democrático— que se sucedieron a lo largo de su existencia.
This article analyzes the evolution of the Asociación de Agricultores de España (Association of Spanish Agriculturalists), AAE, between its foundation in 1881 and the Civil War. It describes the different phases of the history of this association of landowners, «agrarian» politicians and technicians, the changes in its organization and its strategies, and the elements that enabled it to keep and even to increase its political influence. It introduces briefly, in the second place, the way it constructed and revised the agrarian interests, through the interaction of the discourse of modernization that sustained its identity and the changing political and economic circumstances. Finally, it analyzes the tactics displayed to lobby public decisions under the different political regimes —liberal, dictatorial and democratic— that ruled Spain throughout the history of the AAE.
