Durante la dictadura italiana la relación entre el fascismo y el mundo de la cultura fue muy controvertida, especialmente en el ámbito académico. Las preguntas centrales con las que tratar de resolver la controversia serían: ¿fracasó el intento de fascistizar la cultura porque no se construyó una nueva cultura fascista, porque ésta no penetró del todo ni en las instituciones ni a la comunidad científica y porque sólo obtuvo la conformidad, impuesta y consentida, de los «intelectuales- funcionarios»? o ¿se produjo una verdadera conquista fascista de la universidad, moderada y gradual, cuyo impacto perduró en los modelos, las reglas y la mentalidad de la alta cultura? En estas páginas intentamos responder a estas cuestiones estudiando el proceso de fascistización de la universidad italiana desde la realidad específica de la Universidad de Pavía. Creemos que, dada la naturaleza fragmentada y policéntrica de la universidad italiana, la historia de una sola universidad ofrece claves muy esclarecedoras para entender el proceso.
The relationship between Italian fascism and the world of culture has been highly controversial, especially among academics. The central questions in these debates are: Why did the attempt to have a Fascist culture fail? Was it due to the fact that it did not penetrate at all in the institutions or in the scientific community? Was it due to the fact that if only achieved the conformity of «scholars-civil servants»? Or, on the other hand, was there a real fascist conquest of the university, moderate and gradual, with a lasting impact in terms of the models, rules and mindset of the high culture? In this paper I try to answer these questions by studying the rise of fascism in the Italian university from the specific reality of the University of Pavia. Given the fragmented and polycentric nature of the Italian university, the story of a single university offers very enlightening clues to understand the process.
