El discurso patriarcal de la sociedad cubana estableció un pensamiento sobre la moral y el cuerpo de la prostituta, discursos estos legitimados o contradichos posteriormente por el pensamiento femenino republicano y por la literatura cubana. Este artículo se propone valorar, desde un estudio de caso de la ciudad de Pinar del Río (Cuba), el comportamiento de la prostitución y el proxenetismo en relación con el tratamiento de las autoridades e instituciones cívicas hacia este fenómeno durante el periodo 1902-1958.
The patriarchal discourse of Cuban society under the 19th century Spanish colonial rule was reflected on a more specific discourse on the morality and on the body of prostitutes. Both these discourses were legitimated and critisised by feminine thinkers and Cuban literature in the Republican period. The aim of this article is to analyse on the basis of a case study of the city of Pinar del Río (Cuba), the behaviour of prostitutes and pims and their relation with the polices of the authorities and civic institutions during the period 1902-1958.
